Jerry H Miller
Born 1941 in Chicago, married, two children. Miller attended schools in Illinois & Iowa, B.A., & M.A. Degrees with majors in Business Administration and German Language & Literature, minor in European History, professional positions (1963-1981) with companies in Germany & United States with later establishment & management of his own companies, North American Roller Products, Inc. & North American Automation, Inc. (1981-2020). APS & GPS Judge/Chief Judge (1993-2020).
Specialist Areas: Classical machine postmarks of the world; German New Guinea; German Post Office in China; ditto in Shanghai; Occupation of the Rhineland 1918-1930; Via Siberia 1897-1945; The Evolution of the (German) Reichstag in the History of Germany 1867-1945; Rise & Decline of a Nation (Germany) 1867-1945; the American Occupation of Central Germany April-June 1945, etc.
Memberships: In U.S.A.:Chicago Philatelic Society (CPS), Collectors Club of Chicago (2002-2019) Board Secretary, 2012-2019 Awards Chairman), life memberships in American Philatelic Society, American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors (since 1999) and 2012-2020 Director of Exhibit Critique Service, Germany Philatelic Society (Board Member & Vice President 2008-2012); in many other societies; in Germany: Bund Deutscher Philatelisten (Association of Philatelists of Germany); Postmark Study Group; German Colonial Study Group.
Authorship: Since 1985 more than fifty published articles in the Philatelic Press with many awards; in 2006 the ‘Silver Chalice Award’ of the Great Britain Philatelic Society for the best article in the GB Journal; handbook & catalog for classical German experimental machine postmarks (1993, 2nd Edition 2008).
Exhibits: (1985-2020) 36 multi-frame & single frame exhibits covering the aforementioned specialist and other areas with many Gold/Large Gold-medals, among others “German New Guinea 1988-1914” NAPOSTA 2009 (Essen, Germany) large gold; 2008 ‘Diamond Award’ from the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors for six gold-awards with six different multi-frame exhibits within ten years.
Honors: 2006 Russo Award from the Chicago Philatelic Society for the best lecture; 2008 Newbery Award for philatelic activities (etc.) given by the Chicago Philatelic Society; 2018 APS Nicholas G. Carter for National Promotion Service; 2019 AAPE Herdenberg Award for Service to the Society.
Jeffrey Shapiro
Jeffrey Shapiro, a retired Social Service Administrator, has been a stamp collector since age 10, with philatelic interests in 20th Century Postal History, including Post World War I German Inflation and World War II Postal History.
Jeff is a 34-year member of the American Philatelic Society (APS) and currently serves as its Vice President. He is a Gold Medal exhibitor, a writer and since 2000, an accredited APS Judge. For 24 years, he was Chair of the APS/WSP bourse and exhibition,” Philatelic Show”, held annually in Boxborough, Massachusetts.
Currently a Vice President of the United States Stamp Society and a Board Member of the Spellman Postal Museum, Jeff is a member of four Boston area stamp clubs and the Collector’s Club of New York and the Collector’s Club of Chicago.
